Ruger - My Accident Prone Colt

Ruger, my accident prone colt surprised us on a Sunday in August with this nasty cut. We're not sure how he did it, but it was definitely worthy of a visit from the lovely ladies at Minnesota Valley Vet.

Thankfully the pain didn't stop him from being able to eat (It's his favorite hobby)...

My dear friend Hannah Peterson always seems to be around when the wild and weird takes place at our house. She was in on helping us hold Ruger up while he was sedated and getting stitched up.

Our vet Jess is incredible. She stitched him up in short order and took great care of him!

Ruger coming out of sedation...

Just like new! Except the story doesn't stop here...

Ruger is a baby...and he's a colt. Therefore he's an expert at ripping out stitches. After stitching up the cut three times and patching it twice, we finally decided to leave the wound open. And it looked like this...

So the poor guy walked around for a few days with a denim and duck tape patch on his face. We just prayed it would heal...

In spite of his cut, the sweet boy still had a great attitude. He nursed and grazed like nothing at all was amiss.

And here is the most recent picture of his progress! In a matter of a week, the cut came together on its own and his face is now healing up nicely. I'm thinking of registering his as "Chicks Dig Scars." :-)
